Three productions will comprise the 2018 Goodspeed Musicals season, which launches April 13, 2018, with The Will Rogers Follies: A Life in Revue.
Directed by Don Stephenson, the cast of the Tony-winning musical will be led by Goodspeed veteran David Lutken in the title role; Lutken appeared in the original Broadway production of Will Rogers Follies. Featuring a book by Peter Stone, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, performances will continue through June 21.
The family-friendly Oliver!, based on the Charles Dickens novel, will follow, running June 29–September 9, 2018, in East Haddam, Connecticut. Rob Ruggiero will direct the Lionel Bart musical about Oliver Twist, Fagin, Nancy, and the Artful Dodger.
The season will conclude September 21–November 25, 2018, with Bullets Over Broadway The Musical. Written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay of the film by Allen and Douglas McGrath, the production will be directed by Gordon Greenberg.
Additional casting and creative team members will be announced at a later time.
About the upcoming season, Goodspeed Executive Director Michael Gennaro said in a statement, “2018 promises to be a fantastic year. We have something for everyone at The Goodspeed including a dance-filled musical comedy, a beloved Dickens classic and a zany Roaring Twenties-inspired romp. Our audiences expect only the best from Goodspeed and we plan to give them exactly what they want: exciting, entertaining and uplifting stories along with plenty of song and dance.”
