The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss will make her Broadway debut in the long-running, Tony-winning revival of Chicago January 15, 2018.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter will step into the role of Matron “Mama” Morton for eight weeks through March 11, 2018, at the Ambassador Theatre. Burruss currently headlines a sold-out, nationwide tour with her group XSCAPE.
The Broadway musical currently stars Tony nominee Charlotte d’Amboise as Roxie Hart, Olivier winner Leigh Zimmerman as Velma Kelly, Todrick Hall (through January 14) as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, LaVon Fisher-Wilson as Matron “Mama” Morton, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Burruss earned a Grammy Award in 2000 for penning the TLC hit "No Scrubs." She has been a cast member of Bravo's Real Housewives of Atlanta since its second season in 2009.
With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, the production is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
