The musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda will kick off Theatre Under The Stars’ season.
Anthony Lee Medina, known for his television work on Flesh and Bone, Blue Bloods and The Carrie Diaries, will star as Usnavi in Theatre Under The Stars’ production of In the Heights, which will kick off TUTS’ 2016-17 season September 13.
Directed by Nick DeGruccio, the cast also includes Rayanne Gonzales (The Phantom of the Opera) as Abuela Claudia, Danny Bolero (In the Heights) as Kevin Rosario, Chelsea Zeno (Priscilla Queen of the Desert national tour) as Vanessa, Michelle Beth Herman (New London Barn Playhouse’s Spamalot) as Nina Rosario, Blaine Krauss (The Lion King national tour) as Benny and April Ortiz (In the Heights) as Camila Rosario.
Rounding out the cast are Jonathan Arana, Philippe Arroyo, Wesley Barnes, Sarita Colon, Ellis Dawson, Yesy Garcia, Rebecca Kritzer, Michael Ivan Navarro, Adoralynn Pagan, Jamila Sabares-Klemm, Carlos Salazar, Isabel Santiago, Michael Sylvester, Alicia Taylor Tomasko, Frank Viveros and Ricardo Zayas.
Performances run through September 25.
In the Heights features music and lyrics by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Pulitzer winner Quiara Alegría Hudes.
Jose-Luis Lopez will recreate the show’s original choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. The scenic and costume design for this production will also be based on that of the original Broadway production.
